Visual testing pricing calculator
What does visual regression testing actually cost?
Every tool meters the same unit, a snapshot, and nobody knows their real number until the invoice lands. Describe your team and see the monthly cost across UI Verify, Chromatic, Percy, and Applitools, side by side, with your usage plugged in.
Describe your team and we fill in the rest.
About 120 CI builds a month at ~15 pull-request builds per engineer.
Components, pages, or states you capture.
120 screens × 1 browser × 120 builds. Every vendor meters this same unit.

At 14,400 snapshots a month UI Verify is $89, $90 a month less than the next option, Chromatic.
List prices as published by each vendor (uiverify.ai/pricing, chromatic.com/pricing, August 2026, browserstack.com/pricing, August 2026, applitools.com/pricing, September 2026). Applitools meters checkpoints, not snapshots, and prices only its entry tier publicly. Estimates assume every screen renders on every build; with snapshot-only-what-changed, most builds bill far fewer.
How a snapshot is counted
A snapshot is one screen, in one browser, at one viewport, captured once per build. Chromatic calls it a snapshot, Percy a screenshot, Applitools a checkpoint. The unit is the same, so your monthly volume is a single multiplication:
screens × browsers × viewports × builds per month = snapshots per month
This is why the bill grows faster than teams expect: adding a second browser or viewport doubles the count, and every pull request that reruns CI multiplies it again. It is also why capturing only what changed matters. UI Verify carries unchanged screens forward, so a typical build bills a fraction of your full UI.
Visual testing cost, answered
- How much does visual testing cost?
- Visual testing is priced per snapshot: one screen, in one browser, at one viewport, once per build. Your monthly bill is your snapshot volume times each vendor's per-snapshot rate, after a free tier. The calculator above turns your team's setup into a monthly number for UI Verify, Chromatic, Percy, and Applitools.
- What counts as a snapshot?
- A snapshot is one screen (a component or a page) captured in one browser at one viewport, once per build. Chromatic calls it a snapshot, Percy a screenshot, Applitools a checkpoint; the unit is the same. Snapshots per month equals screens times browsers times viewports times builds.
- Which visual testing tool is cheapest?
- It depends on your snapshot volume and how many browsers you test. UI Verify has the widest free tier in this comparison (10,000 snapshots a month) and the lowest per-snapshot rate, so it is usually the cheapest as volume grows; at tiny single-browser volumes several tools are free. Enter your numbers to see your case rather than trusting a headline.
- Is there a free visual testing option?
- Yes. UI Verify includes 10,000 free snapshots a month with an AI judge, an MCP for your coding agent, and pull-request checks, no credit card. Chromatic includes 5,000 (Chrome only) and Percy 5,000. Applitools has no free tier, only a free trial. For a tiny single-app project, running Playwright's screenshot assertions locally may be enough.
- Why do the per-snapshot prices differ so much?
- Each vendor sets its own included bucket and overage rate, and prices its free tier differently, so the gap widens with volume because overage rates differ by an order of magnitude. Applitools is the outlier: it meters checkpoints rather than snapshots, publishes only a flat annual Starter price, and is quote-based above it.
